Dr. Kelsey Moreno

"Sociality's Double Edge"

Headshot of Kelsey Moreno
Dr. Kelsey Moreno
McDonald Theatre February 24, 2025 at 4 p.m.

An assistant professor at Saint Xavier University, Dr. Moreno is a comparative psychologist whose research focuses on the causes and consequences of social connections in non-human mammals.

  • Dr. Moreno's specialization includes Animal Social Behavior, Social Network Analysis, Cetacean Bubble Production and Behavioral Response to Disease.
  • Dr. Moreno was awarded the Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program Postdoctoral Scholarship.

We often think of sociality as a good thing, but it can come laced with problems, too. Dr. Kelsey Moreno will discuss both positive and negative aspects of social relationships, and how individuals and groups adjust their behaviors to balance those conflicting pressures, through the lens of her work with dolphins and bats.

About Fawl Lecture Series

Psychology professor Clifford L. Fawl (1930-2002) left an indelible mark on the Psychology Department at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Chairing the department for over 40 years, Fawl challenged students to think for themselves, integrated innovative teaching programs and designed the laboratory space in the Smith-Curtis building.

In 1975, Fawl started a Psychology Fair that invited hundreds of high school students and their teachers to engage in demonstrations of psychological phenomena. Distinguished researchers in the various fields of psychology were invited each year to present a lecture and interact with our students.

In 1997, friends and alumni donated money to establish The Fawl lecture series in his honor. There are two objectives for the Fawl Lecture Series Fund: to honor the career of Cliff Fawl and to fund an annual lecture in psychology.
